Empty, Refillable Filter Bags for Activated Carbon and Ion Exchange Resin

WINKLER manufactures empty, refillable filter bags for activated carbon and ion exchange resin. The textile bag takes up the fill medium and holds it in the intended process vessel or filter housing. The process effect comes from the activated carbon or the ion exchange resin you choose and from the way your plant is run.

Activated carbon filter bag approx. 40 l · high-purity PE/PTFE version · PP ion exchange resin bags in three standard sizes · standard and custom manufacture

Important delivery note: these filter bags are supplied empty and unfilled. Activated carbon and ion exchange resin are not included unless a specific quotation says otherwise.

Industrial treatment media bags: what the term means on this page

Several names circulate for the same product class in English, and they lead to very different results. This is worth two minutes before you choose.

A filter media bag in the aquarium and pond trade is a small mesh pouch for a few hundred grams of media. An industrial filter media bag of the kind on this page holds between roughly 18 and 40 litres of bed and sits in a filter housing or process vessel. Same words, two product classes, and a factor of a hundred between them in capacity.

The second confusion is about the contents. A search for a bag of activated carbon or for a DI resin bag usually expects the medium to be inside already. Everything on this page is an empty filter media bag. You supply the carbon or the resin.

With that in place, the rest of the vocabulary sorts itself out. Treatment media bags, ion exchange media bags, refillable filter media bags, resin containment bags, activated carbon media containment bags: all of them describe the same thing here, namely a bag that is delivered empty and filled on site with the treatment medium.

Choosing the filter bag to match the fill medium and the process

The three versions take up different treatment media and are intended for different industrial processes. What decides is the fill medium, grain size, process chemistry, vessel dimensions, closure and purity requirement.

Activated carbon filter bag for electroplating and electrolyte filtration

The activated carbon filter bag is intended to take up granular activated carbon in plating processes. The standard size is Ø 380 × 710 mm at around 40 litres. Granules from 0.4 to 5.0 mm are intended; the confirmed fill quantity of up to 20 kg applies to the 0.4 mm grade.

The load is carried by a strap routed twice beneath the base. The bag deliberately has neither a hook-and-loop nor a drawstring closure.

High purity ion exchange resin bag in PE nonwoven with PTFE thread

The high purity bag is made from point-bonded and heat-set PE nonwoven with a PTFE sewing thread. Hook-and-loop tapes, drawstrings, coatings and inserts are not part of the construction.

The confirmed application is the treatment of high-purity hydrogen peroxide. No blanket clearance for every concentration or operating condition follows from it. Medium, concentration, temperature, exposure time, purity requirement, resin type and installation situation all have to be assessed.

Ion exchange resin bag for industrial water treatment

The PP ion exchange resin bag is designed for repeated opening, emptying and refilling, which is why it has an overlapping sewn-on hook-and-loop closure.

The standard sizes Ø 300 × 250, Ø 350 × 250 and Ø 400 × 230 mm give calculated volumes from around 17.7 to 28.9 litres. The former blanket figure of 25 litres therefore does not apply to every variant. What decides is vessel internal diameter, height, resin type and the clearance needed for closing.

What the textile bag does and where it stops

The textile bag takes up the solid treatment medium, holds it in the intended vessel and supports filling, installation, handling and removal. The chemical process effect does not come from the bag.

With activated carbon

Adsorption and the achievable bath quality depend on carbon type, loading, contact time, temperature, circulation and process management.

With ion exchange resin

Capacity, selectivity, regeneration and the achievable water or product quality come from the resin and the system as a whole.

Reading the material values correctly

Micron and air permeability values describe the textile material. They guarantee neither a particular liquid throughput nor a chemical treatment performance.

Needed for selection

Fill medium, grain size, process medium, temperature, vessel dimensions, closure, flow direction, purity requirement and quantity have to be looked at together.

Manufacturer of ion exchange resin bags and activated carbon filter bags

WINKLER manufactures these bags in Werther in Westphalia. As a manufacturer we select material, seam, closure and strap design from the process rather than from a catalogue grid. That is why a bag with no closure at all sits next to one with a hook-and-loop closure in this category.

For customers looking for a resin bag manufacturer with in-house making-up, custom work is covered as well: different dimensions, a different closure design, cutting to drawing or to a sample, including in small quantities.

Frequently asked questions about activated carbon and ion exchange resin bags

Are the bags supplied with activated carbon or resin already in them?

No. The standard products are supplied empty. Activated carbon, ion exchange resin, vessels and complete treatment systems are not included.

Are these the same as aquarium filter media bags?

No. An aquarium media bag holds a few hundred grams and is priced and built accordingly. These are industrial filter media bags for 18 to 40 litres of bed in a filter housing or process vessel.

Why does the high purity bag carry no micron rating?

On that version the material combination of PE nonwoven and PTFE thread is what matters. Where a specific retention limit is required, resin type and grain size have to be assessed separately.

Are custom sizes possible?

Yes. For an assessment we need fill medium, grain size, required fill quantity, vessel internal dimensions, installation orientation, process medium, temperature, closure type and quantity.

Abschluss

Does the bag guarantee the intended process effect?

No. Adsorption comes from the activated carbon and ion exchange comes from the resin. The bag takes up the medium and holds it in the intended process vessel.

Which version suits repeated resin changes?

The PP version for water treatment has an overlapping hook-and-loop closure and is intended for repeated use.

Does the 25 litre figure apply to all PP resin bags?

No. The three standard sizes give calculated volumes from around 17.7 to 28.9 litres. Size is chosen from vessel dimensions, resin quantity and the clearance needed for closing.

Not sure about size, material or closure?

Through filtration product advice we work out which version suits your fill medium, vessel and process, and whether a custom bag makes sense.
