A filter bag for ion exchange resin built from two materials and nothing else

This is an empty resin containment bag. Ion exchange resin is not included, and we do not supply resin, columns or complete plant. What we supply is the textile part that holds the resin in place.

With most filter bags the question is what they hold back. With this one the question is what they give off.

In purity-sensitive processes every component in contact with the medium is a possible source of entry. This bag is therefore built on a principle best described as leaving things out: two materials, no third. A PE nonwoven for the bag body and a PTFE sewing thread for the seams. No hook-and-loop tapes, no drawstrings, no coating, no inserts.

A resin filter bag for fine chemicals does not get better by doing more. It gets better by consisting of less.

Why the sewing thread is a purchase criterion on a PTFE sewn resin filter bag

There is hardly another product in the range where the sewing thread appears in the technical table. Here it belongs there, and the reason is simple. The seam is the place where a bag consists of more than one material.

A bag made from a good nonwoven and sewn with an arbitrary thread is, in a chemically demanding process, only as resistant as its thread. This one is therefore sewn with polytetrafluoroethylene. PTFE is chemically very unreactive, which means the seam line is not the limiting element of the construction. It does not mean the seam is permanent, and we do not describe it that way.

The comparison with the water treatment version makes the difference clear. There a hook-and-loop closure is right, because the bag is opened repeatedly for resin changes. Here it would be an additional material with additional surface, and additional surface is precisely what this bag is designed not to have.

PE ion exchange resin bag: point-bonded and heat-set nonwoven

The body of this PE resin bag is a polyethylene nonwoven that is point-bonded and heat-set.

Point-bonded means the fibres are joined at defined points rather than glued over the full area or coated. Between the bonding points the nonwoven stays open, and no additional binder enters the process.

Heat-set means the material is stabilised under heat so that it keeps its structure and its dimensions in service.

Both are finishing steps on the nonwoven. They stabilise the structure, and they are part of the reason this material is chosen for these processes. An assurance that no fibres whatsoever reach the medium cannot be derived from them, and we do not give one.

Why this high purity chemical filter bag carries no micron rating

No fineness figure is available for this product, and there is a reason for that.

On the other bags in this category the opening size is a selection feature, because retention against a known grain size is what is being asked for. Here the material list decides. Anyone selecting for a purity-sensitive process checks first which materials come into contact with the medium, and only then which grain size has to be held. This bag is built in that order.

If your resin requires a specific retention limit, we work that out together with resin type, swollen grain size and operating regime.

A filter bag for high purity hydrogen peroxide: the confirmed application and its limits

The documented application of this bag is the treatment of high-purity hydrogen peroxide. The material combination was selected for it and is in service in that duty.

No general clearance follows from that. Hydrogen peroxide is not simply hydrogen peroxide: concentration, temperature, exposure time, stabilisers and the required purity class change the duty considerably. A hydrogen peroxide resin filter bag is therefore something we confirm case by case rather than off the shelf.

Needed for the assessmentWhy
Medium and concentrationbasis of any material evaluation
Operating temperaturechanges the duty on nonwoven and seam
Exposure timecontinuous and brief contact are different cases
Required purity classdetermines which evidence is needed
Resin type and grain sizedetermines retention and filling
Vessel dimensions and orientationdetermines size and construction

For processes with a recurring clearance obligation we take the conversation into technical consulting.

Standard sizes of the high purity resin filter bag

Standard sizeNote
Ø 300 × 250 mmsmallest diameter, same height
Ø 350 × 250 mmintermediate diameter
Ø 400 × 250 mmlargest diameter, same height

The three sizes differ only in diameter; the height is 250 mm throughout. Selection therefore follows the internal diameter of your vessel and not the installation depth. For different geometries we manufacture to size, and a custom ion exchange resin bag can be laser cut where the contour calls for it.

High purity or water treatment: the two resin bags compared

The decision comes down to a single question: is the purity of the medium in the foreground, or the handling at resin change? For industrial water treatment the PP version is the one to take. The comparison of all three bags in this category sits on the category page.

Fabric weight, opening size and fill volume are not stated for this product because no confirmed figures exist. We would rather show the gap than fill it with a value from a neighbouring product.

Frequently asked questions about the high purity resin bag

The questions come from chemical and process plants and concern scope of supply, material suitability and clearance.

Is ion exchange resin included?

No. The bag is supplied empty. You fill it with the resin your process requires. We supply neither resin nor complete systems.

Why does the sewing thread appear in the technical data?

Because it is a purchase criterion here. A bag is, in service, only as resistant as its weakest material, and that is frequently the seam. The PTFE thread means the seam is not the limiting element of the construction.

Is the bag cleared for hydrogen peroxide?

The treatment of high-purity hydrogen peroxide is the confirmed application of this bag. There is no blanket clearance for every hydrogen peroxide. Concentration, temperature, exposure time and required purity have to be assessed for your case.

Why is no filter fineness given for this PE resin bag?

Because selection here does not run through the opening size but through the material combination. If your process requires a specific retention limit, we work it out together with resin type and swollen grain size.

What is the difference from the water treatment version?

This bag is PE nonwoven with a PTFE thread and has no closure. The water treatment version is PP fabric with an overlapping hook-and-loop closure for repeated resin changes.

Does heat setting prevent fibres from entering the medium?

It stabilises the nonwoven structure. We do not derive from it an assurance that no fibres are released. For processes with a formal evidence requirement we clarify in advance which documentation is needed.

Can the high purity bag be reused?

No confirmed cleaning and inspection procedure exists for it, so reuse is not intended for this version. The PP version for water treatment is different in that respect.

Which size suits my vessel?

The three standard sizes differ only in diameter; the height is 250 mm in each case. The internal diameter of your vessel is therefore what decides. For different geometries we manufacture to size.
