The finest grade, and usually the second pass

After an ordinary pond clean there is often cloudiness left. The coarse sludge is out, but fine sediment and algae residue are still in suspension and take days to settle again.

That is where this grade works. With a documented mesh aperture of 105 micrometres it is the finest version in the pond range and catches material that passes straight through the 150 µm grade, let alone the 400.

Finer also means more delicate, and that changes how you use it

This is the point the page has to be honest about, because it affects the purchase.

The 100 µm fabric weighs 65 grams per square metre and is 120 micrometres thick. For comparison, the coarse 400 µm fabric brings 105 g/m² at 285 micrometres. So the fine pond filter bag is considerably lighter and less than half as thick.

Then there is open screen area: 33 per cent against 52 per cent in the coarse fabric. Less through-flow surface means the bag loads faster and the water drains more slowly.

Neither is a weakness. Both are the physical consequence of the fineness. But in practical terms it means this bag wants more attention. It is not the one to reach for as a first pass on a heavily silted pond, it does not tolerate coarse or sharp material, and it needs rinsing more carefully than its coarser siblings.

Working in two stages

For most users a 100 micron pond filter bag is the second pass, not the only one.

The usual sequence: vacuum with a coarser bag until the bulk of the sludge is out. Then change the bag and go over the pond again with the fine grade. The solid load is spread across two bags, and the fine one stays permeable longer.

Anyone using the 100 µm grade directly on a heavily silted pond will be interrupting and rinsing repeatedly. It works, but it costs more time than changing the stage would.

Technical data

The figures below describe the fabric in use. Where a listing calls this a pond vacuum filter bag at 100 micron, the 100 is the product grade; the measured mesh aperture is 105 micrometres.

Which size suits your vacuum and your pond depends on the discharge diameter and on how much you lift in one session.

Rinsing: this is where care pays

With a fine fabric, rinsing decides how long the bag stays usable.

After emptying, turn the bag inside out and rinse it thoroughly with clean water. Turning it matters particularly at this fineness: rinsed from the outside, the particles are pushed deeper into the weave. Rinsed from the inside, they come away.

Then hold it up to the light. A clean fabric lets light through evenly; patches that stay dark are still blinded. Check seams and opening while you are there.

We do not quote a number of uses. It depends on the load, on how carefully the bag is rinsed and on whether it has been handled roughly.

What even the finest grade does not do

The fine bag makes the water visibly clearer. It does not make it completely clear.

Part of the cloudiness comes from particles below the mesh aperture, part from dissolved substances and micro-organisms. A textile filter of this design captures neither. Anyone aiming at lastingly clear water has to deal with the biology of the pond: nutrient input, planting, fish stock and circulation determine the picture far more than any filter bag.

Questions about the fine 100 µm pond filter bag

The recurring questions are about the relationship to the standard grade and about how fast the bag loads.

When do I need 100 instead of 150 µm?

When cloudiness is still visible after cleaning and you want to catch finer suspended solids. For normal soiling the 150 µm grade is enough and is easier to handle, because it loads more slowly.

Does the fine bag load quickly?

Faster than the coarser versions, yes. With 33 per cent open screen area it has considerably less through-flow surface than the 400 at 52 per cent. How fast in practice depends on the amount of sludge. On a heavily silted pond, a coarse first stage is the most effective countermeasure.

Will my pond water be clear afterwards?

Visibly clearer, yes. Completely clear, no. Particles below the mesh aperture and dissolved substances pass through the fabric. For lastingly clear water, nutrient balance and planting matter more than filter fineness.

What is the fabric made of?

Monofilament polyester screen fabric. Older statements naming polyethylene are not correct; the mill test certificate of July 2026 is the reference.

Can I use it for the first clean as well?

You can, but it is rarely sensible. With a lot of leaves and coarse sludge the bag fills quickly and has to be interrupted repeatedly. The 400 µm grade as a first stage saves time in that case.

How often can I reuse it?

As long as fabric, seams, opening and closure are undamaged and the bag lets light through evenly after rinsing. We do not name a fixed figure, because it depends too much on handling.
